Why You Need A Modern Metal Bed Frame

Metal bed frames have an interesting history. They first appeared in the times of Ancient Egypt and were a symbol of wealth and luxury given that metal was rare. But it wasn’t until the beginning of the 19th century that metal beds appeared in Britain.

The industrial revolution brought brilliant new ways to manufacture products, including beds, so by the early 1800s metal beds were a popular choice. Hygiene was of real importance at the time and metal beds were sterile and strong and they became a good alternative to wooden beds.

Metal bed frames have always taken on elaborate designs with floral patterns, flowing lines and curving silhouettes. Whilst these beautiful design features have not been lost, our modern metal bed frames echo a similar aesthetic but offer a contemporary take with chalky, powder coated paint finishes and elegant, more understated shaping.

For traditional styling

When ornate design is just too much, there’s our traditional Oliver Bed to turn to. This is one of our bestselling beds and for good reason. It’s ever so charming with soft lines and delicate mouldings, with everything working in harmony, not fighting to be the biggest flourish.

A few reasons to love Oliver:

  1. 1.   It comes in eight gorgeous colours
  2. 2.   You can adjust the base height to suit you
  3. 3.   There’s no centre leg meaning you have optimum under bed storage available

It would be remiss of us not to mention our Oliver Day and Guest Bed. Hugely versatile, sofa by day, bed by night. It’s also delightful to look at and available in matt black and porcelain white.

For scrolls, curves and florals

Fresh and contemporary to a tee but with a nod to traditional design features, our Cottingham, Frensham and Adde metal beds are perfect. Our Cottingham Bed strikes an elegant pose with a beautiful swirling design that you can’t help but run your hands over. Frensham on the other hand is more minimalist with an oversized flower petal design echoed in both the head and foot ends. Whilst Adde is so pretty it’s hard not to swoon at her delicate bow like shapes and embossed flower heads.

All three are powder coated to give them a contemporary finish, and are strong, durable and ever-lasting.

For a design classic

When it comes to design classics, we have two beds that will win your heart. Enter Beaumont and Henley. Classic by name, classic by design. Both feature a similar frame but are home to different design features and finishes.

Henley is available in both nickel and brass, boasting globe finials and traditional castings. Beaumont makes a statement with its matt nickel frame and high shine brass finials. The colour contrast is beautifully elegant with a little added extra.

For hotel chic

We can’t get this far without mentioning our Chalfield Bed. If you love an upholstered velvet headboard that’s surrounded by a brass plated slender frame, then this is the bed for you. Luxurious and totally chic with stunning button detail in the headboard, this bed won us over from the minute we saw it.

It also pairs perfectly with our Broxton Bedsides.

So whatever modern metal bedframe suites you best, we hope our collection of metal beds offers you scope, opportunity and versatility. No matter which you choose, a metal bed will always remain current, never able to be outgrown.
