Nominate a Hero – The Winner’s Story
As a thank you from us for all the hard work being done by frontline workers during the coronavirus pandemic, we asked you to nominate a hero and tell us their story.
With over 300 nominees, it was extremely difficult to pick one, with everyone a worthy recipient and each and every story an amazing one. But of course, our luxury bedroom hamper had to find a home, and we’re very proud to share Joan’s story with you, as our winner.
Joan is a Pharmacy Technician at the Countess of Chester Hospital. She went back to work despite being advised to stay off her feet for 6-8 weeks after an injury.
Joan works on the frontline at the hospital, assessing people for their pharmacy needs, but she is always going above and beyond to help out in every way she can.
On top of that, Joan is alone in isolation with no comfort or company to come home to after long, risky days. Asked if she'd taken advantage of any of the offers or help being made available to NHS workers, she replied saying she’d only used a discount for specialist footwear because her injury was causing her pain.
Lucy, who nominated Joan, added that she really deserved a break at the end of all this, and we think so too.
Thank you, Joan for everything you’re doing and for all the people you’re helping. Your selfless acts of generosity and hard work have not gone unnoticed.
We’d also like to say a huge thank you to all the heroes working on the frontline both in front of and behind the scenes. It’s been very humbling to hear your stories.
