How to: Choose the Right Mattress
Trust us – we know a thing or two about mattresses. In fact, we’ve been making them for years at our Yorkshire farm and factory. So when it comes to finding the right one, we’ve got all the insider tips to help…
Try Before You Buy
You might chuckle at the idea of going to a furniture store and having a kip on one of the display beds, but it’s actually not such a ludicrous idea. Though we’d never recommend using Feather & Black as a place to nap (!), we do think if you’re ever shopping for a mattress you should visit the store and have a lie down. If two of you are sharing, get in together and check that it’s wide enough and long enough for the tallest person sleeping in it.
What’s your favourite position?
The level of firmness you require may be affected by the position you regularly sleep in. So if you sleep on your back a medium mattress will provide the best support for your lower back. If you sleep on your side a soft mattress with a stack of two pillows should allow your shoulders and hips to sink in. And if you’re somebody who sleeps on your front, you may be better off with a firm mattress as it’ll help support the muscles in your neck.
The good news is you don’t need to make a compromise on the right mattress for you. Our split tension mattresses have been ingeniously created so that you and your other half can both get the level of comfort and support your body needs.
