Get the Trend Rough with the Smooth
When you’re finishing off your interior re-design and you feel that something is missing – it’s often something about the textures that’s not quite right. In short, texture is the quality which makes the room – or part of it – really stand out.
Do you think this seems like a new idea which you’ve not considered before? Fear not, as we’re here to guide you through and help you effectively implement the rules of texture into your own home.
Texture is how things feel when you touch them. So a squishy rug, for example, or a silky smooth satin finish on your bed linen. Granted – texture does only play a supporting role in your bedroom’s design but it’s no less vital to your bedroom’s overall look. Consider texture as the key element to lift your interior’s mood.
Anything which has a rough texture can be generally considered to make a space feel intimate and grounded while smooth textures bring a sleeker more aloof tone to the room. Placement is important - putting a smooth texture directly next to a rough one will make the rough object stand out more and seem ‘weightier’ than if you space them apart.
Adding texture can come in a variety of forms. Consider furniture, such as wooden table tops, stools or rustic benches, which can all add texture to your room. Or a smaller way to experiment with textures can come in the form of cushions, rugs or some patterned wall design will help add an abundance of texture.
