Sleep tips for the party season
The festive period is well and truly upon us and that means late nights, Christmas parties and family get-togethers. A packed social calendar looks great but it also means that you’ll be spending less time in bed. So, with that in mind, we’ve prepared some handy sleep tips to help you get through what can be a very tiring month!
Without meaning to sound so obvious, you should first make sure your room is as dark as possible when you go to sleep. This is because it encourages production of a hormone called melatonin, which helps restful sleep. Any amount of light (even if it’s from a mobile phone or coming from lights in the hallway) can reduce the chances of a good night’s sleep.
Keeping your bedroom cool is also another way to improve your sleep patterns. Our bodies are at their coolest early in the morning, so beware of cranking up your heating too high in the evenings.
Getting home in the early hours means you have to maximise your time spent asleep when you get into bed, and the best way to do just that is to make sure your bed is clean and comfortable. Laying awake after a late night isn’t very fun, especially when you have to get up early for work the next morning. Invest in some new bed linen or better still a new mattress to help improve your sleep patterns. Even a new comfy pillow can be the low cost solution that you’re looking for!
