Portuguese linens

This week’s blog is going to be a little different because it’s been written by our Linens & Accessories Buyer, Katie, here at Feather & Black HQ after her recent trip to Portugal, where she sampled some new linens in preparation for AW16. Take it away, Katie…

Last month, the company MD and I jetted off to the warmer climes of Porto, northern Portugal to take a closer look at some new linens, cushions and throws for our AW16 planning. The weather was gorgeous and a far cry away from the grey skies of home! But our packed schedule (we had meetings with 7 different suppliers during our one-night stay) meant that there was little time to bask in some winter sunshine.

Instead we were busy visiting factories, production lines and sample areas of some of the most well-skilled artisans in Portugal. In buying, we plan at least 6 months ahead, often 12, so that’s why we were looking for products so far in advance.

While we were away, we saw some exciting new style trends first-hand, including a beautiful design which I saw decorating tiles on the architecture around Porto which intricately mixed blue and white and adorned the sophisticated local architecture. I took a few quick snaps which once back at the office were email across to our supplier as a starting point for a new design in our luxury Jacquard bed linen range. I can’t wait to see the first samples of this new range inspired by Portugal – and lovingly made in Portugal.

The fruits of our labour will be on show next Autumn, so make sure you keep an eye on our website for these new products, but we’re going to have to keep them under wraps until then.
