A patterned fabric is always the most impactful way to make your mark. Remember however that they can date quite quickly so if you're looking to use something floral, or perhaps the latest geometric design, it might be best to go for a smaller piece like a chair or blanket box in your statement fabric and mix with a plain tone of this on your bed.
Stripes are a classic option along with toile de jouy or a vintage floral print.
Don't be afraid to experiment with colour but it's always a good idea to create a mood board first, with paint and fabric swatches. This way you can see all the elements of the room together and you'll instantly see if something is going to clash. Use the latest interior magazines and create tears of textures and colours that you like. In no time you'll have a great starting point for your dream bedroom and what fun you'll have along the way.
