When I read about this new play "lullaby" this morning, my initial thought was "bonkers". As I read on, I found myself thinking how much I'd like to go to this new and borderline crazy theatre experience. "Lullaby" is a brand new play by the Duckie theatre group from South London. The concept, a performance sleep over. The Barbican theatre is transformed into one huge bedroom with single, double and triple beds. You bring along your PJ's and toothbrush and the cast do their best to put you to sleep with their soft stories and gentle lullaby chorus. What's more, breakfast is thrown in at the end and all for as little as £42. Cheaper than a hotel, and far more entertaining. They're not using our beds but perhaps they were concerned that there would be no need for the sleep inducing performance with beds and mattresses as comfortable as ours! Catch it at the Barbican from now until 24th July. Be sure to let us know what you think? Images by Andy Hall for The Observer

We have been running a competition in our stores to win £1500 to spend at Feather & Black and I am delighted to announce that Mrs Elm'Hiri of Beaconsfield has won the top prize. Our lucky winner selflessly bought her mum in to choose a new bed and mattress. Aaah, such a lovely gift. Another satisfied customer make us very happy. Congratulations Mrs Elm'Hiri...

I’m sure most of you are aware of what it is by now and I’ve been happily pinning away for a couple of weeks. For those of you that don’t know, Pinterest is a website that allows you to ‘pin’ pictures from anywhere on the web (including Pinterest itself) onto virtual boards that you can name whatever you like. The idea being that it replaces a traditional pin board where you would rip out pictures of magazines and pin them up for inspiration. It’s a great tool for those of you redesigning your bedroom and needing a place to put all your ideas and get lots of inspiration! I’d urge you to give it a look but I have to warn you its extremely addictive, before you know it you’ve wasted a whole evening browsing pictures (all be it beautiful pictures!) If you do join, check out our furniture which has been pinned already!! It may give you some inspiration…. http://pinterest.com/source/featherandblack.com/

On Saturday 4 th June, author, filmmaker and journalist, David Whitehouse spent the entire day in a Feather & Black bed outside Foyle’s bookshop, Southbank Centre, to promote his debut novel Bed . We were honoured that David had chosen our beautiful Henrietta upholstered bed in vibrant royal blue velvet fabric to begin spreading the word about his ‘To Hell with Prize 2010’ prize winning novel. He spent the day, working, writing, reading and talking to passersby. Bed is a coming-of-age novel about a man with huge prospects who, one day, goes to bed and decides to never get out again. ‘The best new novel I’ve read in ages.’- Guardian ‘Staggering, inventive and heartbreakingly beautiful’ – Esquire

So, you’ve found the perfect bed and mattress, now learn how to get a great night’s sleep... (by the way if you haven’t yet found the perfect mattress pop into your nearest store where our experts can help). Shut out the elements Your bedroom should be as cool, quiet and uncluttered as possible. Move computers, work papers and exercise bikes into another room – they’ll only remind you of chores, or worse make you feel guilty! Set your inner time zone Get in sync with your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle by establishing a consistent bedtime and wake up pattern. Random sleep patterns will only confuse your body and can create the equivalent of mini jet lag. If you need to make up for lost sleep take a power nap, but for no longer than 40 minutes. Be a creature of habit Prepare yourself for sleep by reading a book, listening to relaxing music or bathing in lavender oil. Avoid big meals, brandies and espressos before bedtime. A cup of chamomile tea or Horlicks is much more therapeutic. Go retro with clocks Staring at a glowing digital clock display while you’re trying to fall asleep increases your stress levels which keeps...
